Discipline

One of the really good things about observing some type of Lenten fast (giving something up for the season) is the discipline required to honor the Fast. For instance, one of the things I gave up was soft drinks. I’m not usually a big soft drink drinker, unless we eat at a restaurant that offers unlimited refills. Then I become a glutton. I try my best to make sure that I get more than my monies worth. We went to such a place the other night and, even though I wanted to take the “get my money’s worth challenge”, I got water. It was hard, but my wife encouraged me to have a little discipline. As the Lenten Season progresses it will take more and more discipline to honor my commitment. Proverbs 5:23 says that we die because of a lack of discipline. I know that by adding discipline in this area of my life it will help me to have discipline in other areas too. Maybe this Season will even help me to realize that just because the “world” offers it, does not mean I have to try it. Would you like to join me in practicing a little discipline today? I promise, if nothing else, you’ll feel better. Blessings
